20 centuries in ODIs; Tanjid says 'there could be more'

To such a question, Tanjid's answer was, 'I will try. Maybe it can be more than 20. There is no problem in dreaming.' Tanjid, however, could not fulfill the big dream that had been with him for so long. He has been in international cricket for two and a half years, and has been a regular in the team's XI for many years.

He has played 75 matches in ODIs and T20Is. That does not mean that he has done very badly. He has scored 5 fifties in ODIs, 11 in T20Is. But he could not convert even one of his 16 fifties into a century in international cricket. Centuries are the most beloved name for batsmen, and since Tanjid was an opener, his chances were greater. His sorrow should have been a little greater.

Tanjid's words also conveyed the same, 'It feels a little bad (if he does not get a century). Maybe it should have happened earlier. But I could not do it. I could not pull out many good innings. I do not want to look back on what is in the past. I want to move forward.’

Tanjid batted at a strike rate of over a hundred for almost the entire innings yesterday. In the second over of the innings, he hit Haris Rauf for four sixes. At the end of 10 overs of the powerplay, when Bangladesh’s score was 50, Tanjid was on 30 not out. During this time, he also made a record by hitting two sixes. He now holds the record for the most sixes in the powerplay for Bangladesh in ODIs, surpassing Liton Das.

Such a glimpse is not new for Tanjid. He is one of the best in the country in terms of his ability to hit boundaries. However, the regret of not being able to extend the innings has been his only companion again and again. Today, that regret has also disappeared. Fifty off 47 balls. Century came off 98 balls. Along with 9 fours, 7 sixes came from his bat.

However, Tanjid says that he does not have any separate plans to be aggressive. Since there are fewer chances of scoring runs during the powerplay, he tries to hit boundaries whenever he gets the chance, "When I bat, my mentality is positive. I always try to hit boundaries with whatever is in my range."
