Chhatra Dal leader arrested in Barisal in extortion racket case

 

According to the case source, Monirul Islam works as a contract sand filling worker. He started work by installing pipes for sand filling in Sholak Union of the upazila. On January 4, seven to eight people led by Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Monir Sardar went there with local weapons and demanded a ransom of two lakh taka. Later, they were forced to pay one lakh taka in three installments. Chhatra Dal leader Monir Sardar came to Radhi Bari in Dakshin Dhamura village on Friday afternoon to collect the remaining one lakh taka. At that time, when he refused to pay the ransom, dredger mechanic Abu Bakkar Howlader was beaten with a hammer and injured. Later, locals rescued him and admitted him to the nearby Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex.
A case was filed at Uzirpur Police Station on Friday, naming Monir Sardar and one of his associates and eight other unidentified people as accused in the incident. Monir Sardar has been arrested in that case.

Meanwhile, Monir Sardar has been expelled from his organizational post as per the decision of the Chhatra Dal central committee after the incident. On Saturday night, Chhatra Dal central committee office secretary Md. A notice signed by Jahangir Alam said that in view of specific allegations of breach of organizational discipline, Ujirpur Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Monir Sardar has been expelled from his post. Along with this, Tarek Sujan, senior joint convener of the committee, has been given the responsibility of acting convener.

The notice further said that this decision will be effective immediately to maintain the dynamism and continuity of the organization. Chhatra Dal central committee president Rakibul Islam and general secretary Nasir Uddin have approved the decision.
